Pharaoh's chariot

This is a 20 mm plastic miniature of an Egyptian chariot.
The model was produced by Atlantic when I bought it. Nowadays the Italian company Nexus has the moulds. I lightened the chariot body by cutting away the rear body and adding wire railing. The base is covered with a textured desert mat from Preiser, the railroad modelling company. A perfectionist would have replaced the wheels with a lighter type and given the driver wire reins. Perhaps next time....

A Celtic Chieftain

A fine 25 mm miniature of a Celtic chieftain in a haughty pose.
In fact, this is a fantasy figure, a Dunedain chief from Mithril Miniatures. However, it was very obviously inspired by Celtic archaeology, down to such details as carrying the long sword on his right side.

Scythians shoot it out on the steppes

15 mm Scythians, the archetypical light horse warriors, in a whirling cavalry fight. The figures, from various manufacturers, are based for DBA/DBM, my favourite sets of Ancients wargames rules.

Killers of men

Ancient histories, especially Herodot, tell us that the women of the early Steppe people were very warlike. Indeed, is is said that a Sarmatian girl was not allowed to marry before she had killed her first enemy.

Archaeology apparently confirms this. There have been numerous finds of woman graves with weapons and, indeed, signs of battle injuries.

Galleys

Two 1/1200 scale ancient galleys by Langton miniatures, a large Dekeres and a smaller Trireme. The Dekeres (vessel with 10 rows of rowers) represents a Hellenistic ruler's personal flagship. The colour scheme is based on Cleopatra's ship in 'Asterix and Cleopatra'. Not the most reliable of historical sources, but it looks suitably spectacular.
